Athens, Greece

My sister and I have both spent time in Athens in the past, but we returned to Athens to meet up with her boyfriend. He only had a week to spend in Greece, so we made mental notes of all the places we wanted to take him while he was there. We spent a day and a half in Athens, three in Koroni, and a day in Nafplio before heading to Patras for a ferry to Italy.

One of the big spots in Athens is Syntagma Square. It's the perfect place to people watch and a few blocks from the shopping. Since the airport bus drops people off at the square, we got an iced coffee and awaited his arrival.
A little bit late, he finally arrived to tell us that the airline had lost his suitcase. Turns out it went to Japan (I can see how that might happen since Japan sounds so much like Greece). However, we decided to make the most of the day by going sightseeing first and shopping later.

Many of the buildins at the Acropolis were commissioned by Perecles in the 5th century B.C.
This first building is the Herod Atticus Odeum. It's such a majestic old theater that I could stare at it for hours. The last picture is the Dionysus Theater, but there's not much left of it.

Erechtheion was built around 420 B.C. The Parthenon was built between 447 and 438 B.C.

These buildings are just amazing. Until you stand in front of them, you just can't imagine the size and detail of each one. We just sat and stared at them for quite a while.

Alas it was closing time at the Acropolis, so we headed to the shops to find clothes for my sister's boyfriend. We had a good excuse since we had no idea when his bag would arrive. Finally, to finish off the evening, we grabbed a table at one of the numerous outdoor patio restaurants and enjoyed sitting in the shadows of the Acropolis.
